You’ve polished your CV, aced the interview, and now you’re in the waiting game. Whether you're aiming for a role in early years education, classroom support, or a leadership position, waiting to hear back after an interview can be both exciting and nerve-wracking.
At Employ Hub, we know how important the next step is for your career in childcare and education. That’s why we’ve put together some practical and positive things you can do while you wait for that all-important call or email.
1. Stay Connected with Your Recruiter
If you’re working with a recruiter (like us!), stay in touch. A quick check-in after a few days shows you're still interested and engaged, without being overbearing. Your recruiter might have feedback, updates, or even other roles you could consider.
2. Reflect on the Interview
Take a moment to jot down how you felt the interview went. What went well? Were there any questions that caught you off guard? This will help you prepare even better for future opportunities—whether it’s a follow-up interview or another job down the line.
3. Keep Applying
It’s tempting to pin all your hopes on one job, especially if it felt like the perfect fit. But don’t pause your job search. Keep applying to other roles that excite you. You never know which opportunity might be the right one.
4. Update Your Skills
Use this time to brush up on professional development. There are plenty of free and affordable courses available online in areas like safeguarding, special educational needs (SEN), or early years curriculum. Adding recent training to your CV can give you a competitive edge.
5. Organise Your Documents
Make sure your references are up to date and your DBS check is current (especially vital in education and childcare). Employers often move quickly once a decision is made, so being prepared can speed things along.
6. Take Care of Yourself
Waiting can be stressful. Don’t forget to take care of your wellbeing—get outside, rest, connect with friends, and do things you enjoy. A healthy mindset will help you stay confident and focused, which will show in any follow-up communication or interviews.
7. Stay Positive
Remember: not every application will result in an offer, but each experience helps you grow. If this one doesn’t work out, there are plenty more opportunities—especially with the help of a recruitment partner who understands your skills and passion.
